LAKHIMPUR: In the course of time, the second wave coronavirus contagion has affected the people of Lakhimpur in different places. As a result of it, the number of COVID-19 cases has risen alarmingly in the district along with the rest of the State. Though the district administration and Health Department have initiated various steps to contain the rapid spread of the dreaded virus, it has infected the people with no travel history. The COVID-19 situation may turn worse unless the people become alert and vigilant with regard to breaking the chain of the contagion in the upcoming days.

A total of 96 fresh COVID-19 cases were detected as per Rapid Antigen Test conducted in last two days across the district. Out of them, 42 cases were detected on Tuesday while rest 54 cases alone were detected on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the District Health Department conducted the RAT on 132 persons in eight COVID-19 Test Centres set up across the district. Out of them, the detected cases were reported from North Lakhimpur Urban (3), Dhalpur (3), Bihpuriya (4), Naoboicha (6), Boginadi (10), Ghilamora (1) and North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital Respiratory Clinic (15).

On the other hand, RAT was conducted on Wednesday upon altogether 1,965 people of the district at the eight COVID-19 Test Centres of the district till 5 pm. Out of them, 54 people tested positive for coronavirus infection. These fresh cases were at Dhalpur (4), Bihpuriya (3), Naoboicha (8), Boginadi (12), Ghilamora (2) and North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital Respiratory Clinic (25). Of them, six patients were admitted in the isolation wards of Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital (LMCH) while rest 48 patients were put to home quarantine. On the same day, the Health Department collected a total of 543 swab samples of suspected people for Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RTPCR) Test.

From Wednesday, the district administration initiated steps to conduct RAT upon the counting personnel who will take part in the vote counting of the Assam Legislative Assembly Election-2021 on May 2 as per the direction of Election Commission of India (ECI). The media persons of the district have also been included in the two-day long drive. The media persons of the district, who underwent RAT on Wednesday, tested negative for COVID-19.

With the fresh patients detected on Tuesday and Wednesday, the cumulative total of COVID-19 cases of the district has hiked to 8,404 since April 4, 2020. Of them, a total of 8,044 recovered patients have been discharged from hospitals and home quarantine while there are 298 active cases in the district at present. On Wednesday, 6 recovered patients were discharged from home quarantine. In the district, a total of 61 people breathed their last due to COVID-19 infection till date.
