DIBRUGARH: Bishop Albert Hemrom will be new Bishop of the Dibrugarh Diocese following acceptance of resignation of Bishop Joseph Aind (75) from the Pastoral care of the Diocese of Dibrugarh by His Holiness Pope Francis in Rome on Monday. Bishop Aind had resigned upon reaching 75 years, the traditional retirement age for a catholic Bishop, and for health reasons. Bishop Aind , the fifth Bishop of Diocese which comprises the districts of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, Majuli and Golaghat, had served the diocese for the longest period (1995-2020) in comparison to his precursor. He had also successfully served the church in Northeast India as the chairperson of the Social Communication Commission namely NESCOM, under the aegis of the North East Regional Bishops' conference from 1996 to 2000. He was ordained Bishop of the Diocese of Dibrugarh on March 19, 1995. Bishop Aind expressed his gratitude to the assembled clergy, religious leaders and the laity for their cooperation and support during his pastoral ministry while participating at a function organized at Sacred Cathedral Church in Bishop House here.
