JAMUGURIHAT: Ali Aye Ligang, one of the important festivals of the Mising community of the region, was celebrated across the state on Wednesday with pomp and grandeur. The festival is celebrated on the first Wednesday of the Phalgun month every year.

It is a nature-based festival which marks the beginning of cultivation season. The Mising dominated villages of Khanamukh area under the Sonitpur district, including Baligaon, Boka Gaon, Rangajan, Kekokuli village, Towbhanga, Bamunipam, Dekorai, Dharikati, besides other villages, observed this day with traditional rituals. The Mising villages that stand on both the eastern and western banks of the Jiya Bharali River observed the festival. The traditional rituals were performed in the morning while all sections of the community people joined in the Gumrao and Oinitam in the evening.

DEMOW: Ali-Aye-Ligang was celebrated in Demow Mising area of the Sivasagar district. The women wore traditional dresses and performed Mising dance on the occasion. Traditional food items of the Mising community were made.
