With a vast history and mystery behind its name, the Kaziranga National Park is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India recognized for its unique natural environment. Its entire land coverage is approximately 430 square kilometers comprising rich sedimentary meadows, silty savanna forests, lush misty mixed deciduous woodlands, and dense semi-evergreen woodlands. 

About Kaziranga National Park

It is crisscrossed by 4 primary rivers which also include the river Brahmaputra. This national park is endowed with some of the common species of flora namely, elephant grass, sugarcanes, kumbhi, cougon grass, common reed,Indian gooseberry, talaumahodgsonii, duabanga grandiflora, aphania rubra, and leea indica.

Location of Kaziranga National Park:

The location of this mesmerizing national park is in the amazing state of Assam. This state is situated. in the northeastern region of India. The total land coverage of the park is shared by quite a number of districts, which include Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, and Nagaon.

History of Kaziranga National Park:

The Park formally became a Reserve Forest in 1908, a game sanctuary in 1916, and it was closed officially for shooting in 1926. Kaziranga was thrown open to visitors in 1938. After the independence of India, Kaziranga was asserted as a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1950. The year 1954 marks a significant achievement as the Legislative Assembly of Assam gave the rhinoceros legal protection through the AssamRhinoceros Preservation Act that laid down enormous retribution for killing any of them.In 1974 Kaziranga was established as a National Park, the first national park which increased the pride of the state, Assam. The park has been integrated with more coverage of land. Also, a proposal has been put forward to incorporate an extra 454.50 square kilometers of land. Thus, the neighboring domains of the river Brahmaputra towards the north and a portion of the Karbi Anglong towards the south will be assimilated with the park to offer more access to animals. This is of extreme benefit as the animals will have a surplus area to take shelter during the occurrence of flood.

Best Time of Year to Visit Kaziranga National Park:

The Kaziranga Park cannot be accessed during the period of 1st May to 31st October each and every year. Hence, the adequate period to enjoy the vivid natural magnificence of the park is from November till April.

Summer (April- May): This duration of the year offers a withered and dry climate. Hence, it becomes easier to spot the animals as they would be roaming near the water bodies to quench their thirst and alleviate themselves from the dry heat.

Monsoon (June- September): The period starting from June till September offers the territory a massive amount of rainfall, which can be around 2,220 millimeters (87 in). In short, the climatic condition here persists as hot and humid. The occurrence of flood also increases, hence, making it risky for both the animals and the visitors. This is why the park is supposed to be closed starting from May till October mainly because of the high risks and warnings of flood due to the river Brahmaputra.
