JORHAT: The All Assam Journalists’ Union,(AAJU) Jorhat district Committee announced the name of the Deba Kumar Bora Memorial Media Fellowship recipient in a press conference here today.
The fellowship has been given to Dr. Gitali Saikia, sub-editor, Niyomia Barta, Guwahati. The topic on which she will do research is Bhogdoi, which is in “Danger: Threat to its Biodiversity.”
This is the first time that the Fellowship has been instituted by the AAJU Jorhat district committee.
Barnali Saikia, wife of late Deba Bora, said that it is a small contribution to keep the memory of the late Deba Bora alive and for good, which will result in a better society and environment. She expressed the hope that the research would draw the attention of the government and the people to the preservation and protection of the Bhogdoi River, which was once the lifeline of Jorhat.
The three-member expert panel comprising Dr. Suryya Chetia, assistant professor at Assam Women’s University; Dr. Nilima Bora, former vice principal of Jorhat College (Amalgamated); and Devajit Baruah, a journalist, selected Dr. Gitaly Saikia from 54 entries.
