LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) once again took to the streets on Monday evening against NHPC and Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project.
The activists of the organization, led by district secretary Dhanmoni Dutta, North Lakhimpur regional unit president Pranjit Gogoi and general secretary Punamjyoti Burhagohain, burnt the effigy of the NHPC for secretly continuing the construction work of the SLHP by violating the recommendations of the expert committee and the National Green Tribunal at a time when the whole State is busy in battling against coronavirus.
By staging the protest programme at Bazaar Tiniali of North Lakhimpur town, the organization vehemently condemned the NHPC for its alleged arrogant and adamant attitude with regard to constructing the project. The organization warned the NHPC to stop the secret construction of the project and demanded the governments at the Centre and in the State to take steps against the power generating corporation.
