All Assam Students’ Union gheraoes Assam Power Distribution Company Limited office for frequent power cuts

DIBRUGARH: The regional unit of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Thursday gheraoed the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) office in Dibrugarh to prostest against frequent power cuts. The student activists also burnt the effigy of State Power Minister Nandita Garlosa for failing to take any steps against the frequent power cuts in the State. The activists gheraoed the APDCL office for an hour seeking permanent solution to the problem.

“Due to frequent power cuts, the people are facing immense problem. Power Minister Nandita Garlosa has failed miserably to solve the frequent power cut problem. We demand her resignation because she has failed as the power minister,” said Tanuj Haloi, president of AASU regional unit.

He further added, “The BJP government keeps saying ‘accha din’ but where is the ‘accha din’? They had committed to 24-hour power supply but they failed to provide the power supply. People are suffering due to frequent power cuts. We need solution to end the loadshedding problem. Due to extreme heat and frequent power cuts, the people are suffering.”
