DIBRUGARH: The Dibrugarh, Dhemaji and Lakhimpur District unit of All Assam Students Union (AASU) jointly organized a protest rally at Bogibeel Bridge on Monday and demanded to stop construction work of toll gate on 15 (B) National Highway at Burahoja. The 9 crore 58 lakhs and 71 thousand rupees worth toll gate, constructed under the aegis of National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and PWD, Govt. Of Assam is expected to be completed soon.

Expressing serious concern over the sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities in the market, the AASU leaders felt the toll gate would cause more problems among the people of both North and South banks of the Brahmaputra.

"This toll gate would also put 60 per cent people of Arunachal Pradesh besides people of Dhemaji and Lakhimpur in trouble as they used to visit Dibrugarh either for medical or business purpose," the AASU leaders stated.

The AASU activists urged upon the BJP government to hold the construction of toll gate immediately considering the woos of the 80 per cent people of the North bank of Brahmaputra, who usually come to Dibrugarh for selling their vegetable and other products crossing the Bogibeel Bridge. "These people would suffer badly if they had to pay Rs 150 to Rs 300 per day at the Borhoja toll gate," AASU leaders said.
