All Assam Students’ Union protest in Naharkatia

NAHARKATIA: On the call of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) to stage a 10-hour hunger strike against the Assam Government’s decision to teach Mathematics and Science in English medium from Class VI onwards, a protest was staged near the office of Naharkatia Regional Students’ Union and near the Namrup Regional Students’ Union office from 6 am on Wednesday by Naharkatia and Namrup AASU.

Tridip Saikia, president of Naharkatia Regional Students’ Union, and Ashim Jyoti Phukan, president of Namrup Regional Students’ Union, urged the government to immediately cancel the anti-mother tongue decision, or else it would be forced to take up more aggressive movements than this. At today’s hunger strike, the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad Naharkatia and Namrup regional as well as various organizations, retired teachers and the general public cooperated.
