SIVASAGAR: The executive meeting of All Sivasagar District Students' Union (ASDSU) under All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and a delegation meeting of two subdivision student unions and all regional student unions under ASDSU were held at the head office of the ASDSU at Boarding Road, Sivasagar on Tuesday.

The meetings were presided over by Manab Hazarika, president, ASDSU. The two meetings, in which ASDSU general secretary Dipankar Saikia delivered the objective of the meetings, discussed the educational, social aspects of the district as well as the 'anti-Assam' stand of India's leading Maharatna institution, ONGC.

ASDSU advisor and central executive of AASU, Samiran Phukan, AASU leaders Partha Pratim Baruah, Debajit Gogoi, Ankur Bora and other senior members were present in the meetings and participated in the discussion.

Several resolutions and decisions were taken in respect of educational, organizational and socio-economic aspects of the students' body at the end of the meeting. In protest against the government's failure to develop Sivasagar, and to demand to make Sivasagar an Iconic Site within the time-frame as announced in the Union Budget, to make RGIPT and ARGUCOM full-fledged educational institutions and other relevant demands, the students' union will hold a protest in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Sivasagar on August 4.

The students' body will also stage a protest in front of the headquarter of ONGC, Assam Asset at Nazira on August 9 against the 'anti-Assam' stand of ONGC. On the other hand, the district students' union has also decided to hold a special felicitation programme for students who have secured above 85 per cent marks in the recently declared HSLC and HS final examinations in the first fortnight of August, stated Dipankar Saikia, general secretary, ASDSU.
