LAKHIMPUR: The Jonai district unit of All Assam Tribal Sangha submitted a memorandum to Jimli Saikia Kakati, the SDO (Civil) of Jonai subdivision under Dhemaji district, on Wednesday demanding to redeem the Murkongselek Tribal Belt from massive encroachment by enforcing the Chapter X of the Assam Land and Revenue Regulation Act, 1886 (ALRR Act, 1886).
The memorandum with five demands, countersigned by Jonai district unit All Assam Tribal Sangha president Ajit Regon, vice-president Manoranjan Basumatari and general secretary Padmeswar Doley, stated that the Murkongselek Tribal Belt had been infiltrated and encroached upon by the non-bonafide people in large number since its inception.
Through the same memorandum, the organization demanded the SDO (Civil) to cancel the land patta of non-bonafide people living in the tribal belt concerned for a long time, to appoint a permanent Circle Officer to expedite the moves of enforcing the Chapter X of ALRR Act, 1886, to survey the forest villages and to accord the land pattas to the forest dwellers, to constitute a coordination committee, including Tribal Sangha, in order to resolve the land related issues of the Murkongselek Tribal Belt, along with other demands.
