KOKRAJHAR: The All-Bodo Students Union (ABSU), Kokrajhar district committee on Tuesday organized an intellectuals’ meet at Kokrajhar Science College auditorium hall and took opinions and suggestion from the intellectuals over the ongoing draft delimitation of constituencies in Assam especially in BTC region. The intellectual meet was participated by the principals, lecturers of different colleges, retired headmasters and individuals working in different fields.

In his inaugural speech, the vice president of the ABSU Kwrwmdao Wary said the ABSU had deeply studied the draft delimitation of constituencies in Assam and said they welcomed the redrawing of constituencies based on the administrative conveniences. He said there had been many shortcomings. He said the draft delimitation of constituencies has confined the areas of particular constituency in their respective boundary of the district and there are many changes and adjustments in the co-terminus of constituency. He said the tribal assembly reserved seats have been increased from 16 to 19 in the new draft of which 6 are in the BTC region. He also said Kokrajhar had been retained as a tribal reserved parliamentary constituency as demanded by the people of the region. He said the ABSU and other organizations including political parties have been demanding the creation of Udalguri as 2nd parliamentary constituency in BTC but it is not created. He, however, hoped that the EC will look after the matter after receiving the claims and objection during the hearing to be held on July 11 next.

Wary said the BPF had been blaming the ABSU over the draft delimitation saying that the student body was not taking interest on the creation of Udalguri constituency but made it clear that it was ABSU who has been running from pillar to post with this issue.
