KOKRAJHAR: The AllBodo Students’ Union (ABSU) on Wednesday organized a free mega health camp in collaboration with the government of BTC at Kokrajhar Government College. Hundreds of visitors from various parts came to the mega health camp for health check-up. The visitors were given free medicines.

A public health awareness programme was also held in connection with the platinum jubilee of Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Guwahati at the auditorium hall of Kokrajhar Government College which was chaired by the president of ABSU, Dipen Boro. The health awareness programme was inaugurated by Prof (Dr) Pankaj Kr. Barman, department of Shalya Tantra and Coordinator and Organizing secretary of PJCC.

Earlier, the president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS), Dr. Surath Narzary and MLA Lawrence Islary started the programme with lighting of ceremonial lamp in the presence of the Principal of Kokrajhar Government College, Dr Dimacha Dwibrang Mashahary, Principal of Kokrajhar Girls’ College, Dr Adaram Basumatary, Principal of Bineswar Brahma Engineer College, Kamal Kr. Brahma, and officers of the Health department. The CEM of BTC, Pramod Boro graced the programme as chief guest. The programme was also attended by BTC EM Ranendra Narzary and leaders of ABSU. A souvenir ‘Saoshri Jwthwn’ was released by CEM of BTC, Pramod Boro.

In his speech, CEM Pramod Boro said there had been lack of awareness on good health among the people. He said the mega camp organized by the ABSU and government of BTC was a laudable initiative for the common people. “We are giving emphasis on facilitating maximum services to the masses of the BTC region in the health sector. We have shortage of doctors, technicians and staff for which giving services to people is still not as we expected,” he said, adding that the council government had started the BTR Rog Nirmul Yojana for free treatment to people of BTC. He also said there has been an increase in kidney ailments and cancer, blood pressure and diabetes cases, for which initiative was being taken to enhance services to counter the diseases, including setting up of dialysis units in the hospitals of BTC.

Boro assured that the ‘Cancer Family Friend’ programme would be launched soon in BTC to assist financially-backward families. He said Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital had become operational and various facilities are available in the hospital and people should avail the medical facilities in the Medical College and Hospital.

Over 60 doctors from Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Guwahati and Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital gave their commendable services in the free mega health camp in Kokrajhar GovernmentCollege. More than 3,000 people were checked and given medicines free of cost.
