KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) on Tuesday expressed its strong resentment over the nomination of members of Bodoland University Court where not a single member from Bodoland region has been included to look after the only premier higher educational institution in Bodoland. The students’ union said the zero representatives at Bodoland University Court from Bodoland Territorial Region (Sixth Schedule area) in nomination was a great injustice to the people of BTR. The nominated members are from Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Jorhat and even from Rajasthan but none from BTR.

Talking to media persons in Kokrajhar the president of the ABSU Dipen Boro said, “The office of the Governor’s Secretariat, Raj Bhawan, Assam has nominated 12 members for the Bodoland University Court on July 10, 2023, with eFile No. 291909/273 under Section 15 (1) (B) (xix) and section 15 (1) (B) (xx) of the Bodoland University Act, 2009. But very surprisingly, not a single member has been nominated from the BTR which is a matter of serious concern for us, he said. The members of Bodoland University Court nominated by Governor of Assam and Chancellor of BU includes-Dr. Shukla Bhattacharjee of Guwahati, Apurba Kumar Sarma, Guwahati, Dr. Neelanjana Baruah Bhattacharjya, Jarhat, Utpal Dutta, Guwahati, Prof. Jitendra Singh Naruka of Rajasthan, Ranjan Chakraborty of Guwahati, Sanjib Kr. Gohain, Baruah, Guwahati,Prof. Sudeshna Bhattacharjya, Guwahati, Dillip Dutta, Guwahati, Prof. L.K. Nath, Dibrugargh, Lina Sharma, Guwahati and Prof. N.N. Sharma, Guwahati, all from outside BTR.

Boro said, “Bodoland University was established with the spirit of the Bodoland movement, the sacrifice of our Bodo martyrs is associated with this prestigious university. Such an act of zero representatives from BTR is an injustice to the people of BTR. We appeal to the Governor of Assam and the Chancellor of the Bodoland University to induct at least five court members from BTR area to the BUC. He also said the ABSU will submit a memorandum to the Governor in this regard along with various issues of the university very soon.
