MORIGAON: A three-hour sit-in was staged by the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) and Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) against the Modi government at Bihutoli ground on Monday.

More than 500 activists raised slogans against the Central Government and demanded mitigation of various problems faced by labourers during the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. President of AITUC, Morigaon unit, Haidar Ali, secretary Bhanukanta Das, president of CITU, Morigaon unit, Makibur Rahman and secretary Jagabandhu Biswas demanded that the government should provide Rs 7,500 as aid to every labourer for six months, essential commodities like rice, mustard oil and onion should also be provided, the government should fix Rs 21,000 as wages for the returnees due to lockdown, potable water supply, electricity and houses under PMAY scheme should be given to labourers, easy loan process for labourers and enhancing the monthly pension up to Rs 10,000 and providing Rs.10,000 for female labourers during pregnancy for child care should be provided. A memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister through the Morigaon Labour Officer demanding immediate fulfillment of the demands.
