All Koch Rajbanshi Students Union observes black day by hosting black flag

BONGAIGAON: The All Koch-Rajbanshi Students' Union (AKRSU) observed black day on Friday. The AKRSU activists hoisted black flag in several places of Assam. In Bongaigaon and Chirang also black flags were hoisted. Gokul Barman, secretary of AKRSU, said that the black day was observed in support of the demand for formation of separate Kamatapur state and ST categorization of the Koch-Rajbanshi community.

"August 28 is a black day for the Koch-Rajbanshi community. This was the day in the year 1949 when the accord between last king of the Koch kingdom Jagaddipendra Narayan Bhup Bahadur and the Indian Government was signed. The independent Koch kingdom came under Indian territory from that day. According to this accord, Kamatapur had to be C grade state. But Kamatapur was given this status only for six months. Hence for this betrayal of the Indian Government, we observe this day as black day," Ray said. He threatened the government to launch a massive agitation in support of both demands.
