DUDHNOI: A press conference of the All Rabha Students' Union (ARSU) and 6th Schedule Demand Committee was held at Dudhnoi on Wednesday. A memorandum was also submitted to the Chief Minister demanding severe punishment for the Abhayakhuti rape case accused.

Protests and reactions continue across the State over the alleged rape and murder of two teenagers, Sumaina Rabha (14) and Ravita Rabha (11) of Abhayakhuti in Kokrajhar district on June 11. The Rabha national organizations have also strongly condemned such acts and demanded severe punishment for the guilty.

The All Rabha Students' Union and the Sixth Schedule Demand Committee demanded that the culprits should be handed. In this regard, both the Rabha national organizations on Wednesday submitted separate memoranda to the Chief Minister demanding that the culprits should be punished strictly, case must be tried in a fast track court, and proper compensation as well as government establishment should be given to the next of kin of the two teenagers.

On the other hand, ARSU also reacted strongly to the murder of Jili Rabha (45) and the alleged rape and murder of her 12-year old daughter at Chapai Baligaon under Dhekiajuli Police Station on February 20. ARSU condemned the inability of the administration for not being able to arrest the culprits involved in the incident since four months.

The ARSU also thanked the Chief Minister for quickly initiating an inquiry into the Kokrajhar case. ARSU also demanded that the culprits of the Sonitpur-Dhekiajuli rape case be arrested and punished severely. The Director General of Police, who arrived at Dudhnoi police station on Wednesday evening, was handed over a memorandum by the leaders of ARSU and the Sixth Schedule Demand Committee. The press conference was attended by ARSU in-charge general secretary Joy Chandra Rabha, Sixth Schedule Demand Committee president Mahidhar Rabha and other leaders.
