All Santal Students" Union Golaghat District Committee demanded ST status

GOLAGHAT: The members of All Santal Students" Union (ASSU), Golaghat District Committee submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam through the Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat on Tuesday. In the memorandum signed by the president and secretary of ASSU Dipankar Hemram and Pronodip Besra said that the santals in Assam fulfill all the criteria concerned for being identified as tribals and thus are eligible to be granted the Scheduled Tribe status so as to empower and uplift Santal community from their present state of marginalization and deprivation.
