DEMOW: Under the patronage of All Tai Ahom Students' Union (ATASU), Demow Regional Committee and in association with Nitaipukhuri, Gohainpukhuri, Panidehing, Nahat, Thowra, Sarugua, Athabari, Kharahat, Palengi and Gudhabil Regional Committees, an eight-hour sit-in was staged in Demow Chariali on Wednesday demanding solution to various problems of Thowra constituency.
Their demands included ST status to be given to the Tai Ahom community along with five other ethnic communities, the Citizenship (Amendment) Act must be scrapped, historical assets of the Thowra constituency should be preserved, a Science college should be established in Thowra constituency, the works of the four-lane National Highway road should be completed at the earliest and cattle breeding should get establishment.
The ATASU Demow Regional Committee activists demanded the State Government to look into these problems and to solve them at the earliest. Sumeet Handique, president of ATASU, Demow Regional Committee, along with other ATASU leaders were present in the sit-in at Demow Chariali on Wednesday.
