Dibrugarh: All medical services, barring the emergency services, at Assam Medical College and Hospitals remained withdrawn on Tuesday as a mark of protest against the recent gruesome lynching of Dr. Deben Dutta at Teok Tea Estate.

In response to the call given by Indian Medical Association, Assam State Branch and Assam Medical Service Association (AMSA), the doctors of AMCH were, as per sources, scheduled to take part in a candlelight procession on the streets along with their family members. In a show of solidarity with the deceased, and also as a sign of stiff resistance to the recent rise in violence against the medico fraternity, the students and doctors had also taken out a torchlight march on Monday evening.

The Assam Medical College Teachers' Association has also extended its support to the protests and demanded appropriate punishment for the perpetrators involved in the cold-blooded murder as well as enhanced security measures for the doctors across all health establishments.
