GUWAHATI: In an unfortunate incident, several houses and commercial establishments were gutted and property estimated to be worth crores of rupees destroyed in a fire in Rangia town of Assam on November 4.
As per reports, no person was injured in the fire incident on Thursday night.
The incident took place near Mrittunjay Shiv Temple in the town on Thursday night during Diwali celebrations, engulfing several houses, shops and godowns.
Meanwhile, eight fire tenders were able to douse the fire with the help of local people after more than two hours. Notably, property estimated to be worth crores of rupees was destroyed, though the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
On the other hand, in Guwahati city, a massive fire broke out in the railway colony of Panbazar on November 4.
The fire broke out during the morning hours and mainly affected the area near Kalimandir Path located in the Railway colony.
According to sources, the fire spread over a large area and led to the destruction of several houses in the railway colony setting houses ablaze.
One of the houses in the area that belonged to Basanti Basfore got severely affected by the fire. The huge fire in the area as a whole resulted in the loss of property worth more than ten lakhs.
The reason for the fire in the railway colony is not yet accurately known though it is suspected by the locals that the fire might break out from Diyas lit up to celebrate Diwali.
