Amit Shah, JP Nadda Inaugurate BJP Office; 5 Years to Solve Assam's Flood Problem Sought

Amit Shah, JP Nadda Inaugurate BJP Office; 5 Years to Solve Assam's Flood Problem Sought

GUWAHATI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda are on a visit to the state of Assam. They are taking part in several events over the course of the next two days. Apart from being present for the North East Council meeting, they also inaugurated the biggest BJP office in Northeast India.

While inaugurating the BJP office in Guwahati, Amit Shah sought another five years to solve the flood problem of Assam. He mentioned the annual loss of over Rs 200 crore due to this problem and its presence in the BJP election manifesto. An ambitious mitigation plan by clearing and rejuvenating wetlands of the region to increase their holding capacity and controlling the damage by flood is being prepared, he mentioned. He also asked the state government to prepare a permanent action plan to solve the same and bring about continued economic growth.

He also spoke about strengthening internal security and the need for the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA) in the region and how it is essential for the safeguarding of the armed forces personnel. He mentioned that the number of militant activities has gone down drastically post their coming into power. About 9000 people laid down their arms during this time said the minister.

Along with Amit Shah and JP Nadda, Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam BJP chief Bhabesh Kalita and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha were also present in the event. Nadda also laid the foundation stones of nine district party offices while Shah did the same for 102 BJP regional offices in the state virtually.

The Union Home Minister also mentioned his visit to Assam during his days in ABVP. He also recalled their plight in the hands of the then Assam CM Hiteswar Saikia and his regime.
