GUWAHATI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah who is campaigning here in Assam, targeting the alliance between Congress and AIUDF has questioned the leadership of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal whether they will be able to stop infiltration in the state.
Shah who is campaigning in Tinsukia district while comparing the BJP brigade comprising of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State Cabinet Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma with the Congress led alliance further questioned who will be developing the state better.
"On one hand, there's PM Modi, Sarbananda and Himanta's leadership and on the other hand, Rahul Gandhi & Badruddin Ajmal's leadership. Tell us who can develop Assam?" Shah said.
While addressing the masses, the Home Minister sought five more years to make Assam free from infiltrators, adding "In some days, it'll be decided who will run Assam for the next 5 years."
Drawing a parallel between the alliance in Kerala and West Bengal, Shah asserted that Congress resorts to vote bank politics, which BJP refrains from doing. He added that in the lust of getting power, the grand old party in Kerala has partnered with the Muslim League, in Bengal it's Indian Secular Front and here in Assam its Badruddin Ajmal led AIUDF.
In Assam, Amit Shah addressed the people in Margherita and at Nazira, after which he will then leave for West Bengal.
The Union Home Minister said that within the five years of Modi government Assam has witnessed development and has ended both agitation and terrorism.
Shah, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP chief Jagat Prakash Nadda are among 40 star campaigners of the BJP for Assam Assembly elections.
Polling for the 126-member Assam assembly will be held in three phases on March 27, April 1 and April 6. The counting of votes will take place on May 2.
The saffron party has announced the first list of 71 candidates for Phase-I and Phase-II of Assam Polls. Of the 71 candidates, the party has given tickets to 11 new candidates.
It has also fielded candidates on seats that were earlier held by its allies Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and former partner Bodoland Peoples' Front (BDF).
