TEZPUR: An amount of Rs 2,89,590 was seized in two separate incidents in Sonitpur district in the last 24 hours till the time of filing this report. A flying squad team led by Abhijit Bhattacharyya seized an amount of Rs. 95,000 late on Saturday night from a vehicle during checking at Jamugurihat under Sootea LAC.
In a second incident, an amount of Rs. 1,94,590 was seized by flying squad team led by Dhrubajyoti Borah and Static Surveillance Team led by Mahabub Hassan during regular checking of vehicles at Alisinga in Dhekiajuli, early on Sunday morning from a vehicle on its way to Kharupetia from Seppa, Arunachal Pradesh. The owner who hails from Darrang district claimed he was a vegetable supplier on his way back after collecting the money against supply of vegetables. Since the persons could not produce valid supporting documents, the money was sent to the treasury office, Tezpur. The owners have been asked to produce relevant documents to claim the money back and inquiries are underway.
