Amrit Brikshya Andolan: Assam's Green Revolution to Combat Climate Change

GUWAHATI: In a significant step towards enhancing Assam's beauty and mitigating the effects of climate change, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the 'Amrit Brikshya Andolan' portal during a ceremony at Janata Bhawan in Guwahati's Dispur area. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ideologies and aiming to follow the path of progress, the state government initiated this ambitious program to benefit farmers and foster sustainable development.

During the event, CM Sarma revealed that on September 17, a remarkable initiative would take place. Self-help groups, front-line workers, educational institutes, and government officials would come together to plant 1 crore commercially viable saplings, including sandalwood, teak, and sal, within a span of three hours. This endeavor is not only intended to secure a place in the record books but also to enrich biodiversity and boost the state's economic growth.

The 'Amrit Brikshya Andolan' holds the promise of a greener future for Assam. By strategically planting 1 crore commercial saplings, the state will witness a significant increase in biodiversity, fostering a healthier ecosystem for its flora and fauna. This initiative aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, which has been driving the nation towards progress and sustainability.

One of the key aspects of this program is the empowerment of farmers. By involving them in the planting process and encouraging the cultivation of commercially viable saplings, the state government is providing opportunities for rural communities to improve their livelihoods and economic prospects. The initiative not only addresses environmental concerns but also seeks to uplift the lives of those residing in rural areas.

Additionally, the program promotes sustainable development practices. Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the importance of utilizing bio-fencing instead of traditional concrete walls in house premises, thereby reducing the environmental impact and preserving natural habitats for wildlife.

A noteworthy feature of the 'Amrit Brikshya Andolan' is that the mature saplings can be sold commercially without requiring permission from the forest department. This provision fosters entrepreneurship and economic growth, offering a sustainable source of income for individuals involved in the cultivation process.

Assam's 'Amrit Brikshya Andolan' sets an example for other regions to combat climate change through concerted efforts and green initiatives. By uniting various stakeholders and harnessing the potential of nature, the state is paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future.
