SILCHAR: Anganwadi centres play an important role in the physical and mental development of children in rural areas. Every Anganwadi centre in the village was established to help children's education and character development. This statement was made by the Minister for Excise, fisheries & Transport Parimal Suklabaidya here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion after inaugurating the newly-constructed building of the Panibhora Anganwadi Centre, Minister Suklabaidya highlighted the various developmental projects of the Central and the State government. The minister said during the period of previous government no developmental activities in the anganwadi centres were noticed. Though there was a anganwadi centre but it was used as a rented house to teach the rural children.

"During the reign of earlier government, the funds for the development of the anganwadi centres were misappropriated," Minister Suklabaidya mentioned. The Chief Minister of Assam Dr.Himanta Biswa Sarma is very much keen to promote rural education. He said 66 Model Anganwadi Centres have been approved across Cachar and out of which 11 AWCs were approved in the Dholai constituency.

Meanwhile, the construction work of Anganwadi Centres in the three development blocks of Dholai constituency have almost been completed. Minister Suklabaidya said that the new Assam Government Cabinet has approved another 2,000 Anganwadi Centres for which an expenditure of Rs. 500 crores will be spent. It will be completed within a few days. Minister Suklabaidya also stated that the Assam government recently approved the establishment of two model degree colleges in Cachar district and one degree college in Dholai constituency during a cabinet meeting.

"Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, scooty is being given to 35,800 meritorious male and female students of the state who scored 75% and 60% more in Assam higher secondary examination in 2021, " the minister added.

Minister Suklabaidya also elaborated on various public projects since the formation of new government at the center and state for the welfare of the people and each project was devoted to the service of the people. Several projects, including the Sarba Shiksha Mission, the East-West Corridor, and the Antyodaya Anna Yojana, are currently underway. Later, under the BJP government, numerous public welfare schemes including Jandhan Yojana, Swachh Bharat Mission, Jal Jeevan Mission, Ayushman Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana were undertaken. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, various welfare schemes have been undertaken in just one and a half years, stated a press release.
