TANGLA: In a noble initiative and goodwill gesture towards the poor and downtrodden women of the society, an Anganwadi worker, Ritamoni Talukdar, a resident of Tangla town in Udalguri district, extended a helping hand and gifted clothes, including mekhela-chador, to more than 10 downtrodden families in and around the town on Thursday.
She said, "I have attempted to reach out to the families of daily wage earners and widows who could not buy clothes for themselves on the occasion of Rongali Bihu. Social workers Ranjana Sarmah Baruah and Mallika Pathak Sarania also accompanied Talukdar during the distribution event. Ranjana Sarmah Baruah, while lauding the noble gesture, said "Such initiative if adopted by every citizen, can go way long in minimizing the sufferings and fulfilling the need of the downtrodden and poverty-stricken people." Mallika Pathak Sarania also asserted the need of personal hygiene and safety of people during the second wave of the pandemic.
