SIVASAGAR: The serene campus of the Islamic shrine of Sufi saint Ajan Pir is all set to reverberate with Zikir and a message for universal brotherhood for three days from March 10 to March 12 as hundreds of devotees of different religions, sects, castes and geographical differences are participating in the annual spiritual conference and Ziyarat programme here.
Situated at Saraguri Chapori, Dikhowmukh about 20 kilometres from Sivasagar town, this shrine called Ajan Pir Dargah was built in the memory of Sufi saint Ajan Fakir, who in the 17th century descended from Baghdad and settled in the Dikhowmukh area of the district to reform, reinforce and stabilize Islam and to unify the indigenous people in the region.
Along with prayers and lectures on Ajan Pir’s religious philosophy and universal brotherhood, a competition in the singing of Zikir in the all Assam-level has been included in the three-day programme.
To celebrate the occasion, the Azan Pir Dargah Management Committee has decorated the Dargah premises with impunity and has made adequate arrangements at guest houses, rest houses, prayer rooms in a new form for the convenience of the devotees from different districts of Assam.
The programme will begin on the morning of March 10 as per the schedule of the annual convention with Ziyarat and prayers, followed by cleaning drive at 7 am sapling plantation by former principal Bipul Kataki at 8 am. This will be followed by the hoisting of the flag at 9 pm by Dargah Management Committee president Alhaj Harunal Rashid. The Quran Khatam will be performed by the students of Hazrat Khandakar Pir Darul Quran Madrassa at 2 pm.
Ziyarat and cleaning drive will be held on the morning of March 11, followed by the All-Assam level Zikir Competition at 10 am. The competition will be inaugurated by Dr Bhubaneswar Deka, former principal of Vidyabharati College and the first doctorate and researcher of Zikir and Zari in Assam. Zikir Majlis will be held at 6 pm under the direction of Syed Haqikur Rahman, secretary of Zikir Research Committee.
The open meeting, which will be held at 10:30 am on March 12 will be inaugurated by Pradip Hazarika, chief advisor of the Dargah Management Committee and MLA from Amguri constituency. On the other hand, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, president of Sibsagar Press Club and Principal of Gargaon College will release the souvenir Saragurir Ajan, edited by Anamuddin Ahmed and Khalilur Rahman Hazarika.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will be the chief guest at the open meeting where Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Health and Family Development Minister Keshab Mahanta, Lok Sabha MP Tapan Gogoi, Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tassa, Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Aditya Vikram Yadav, Sivasagar SP Shubhrajyoti Bora and many other guests will be present, informed the Dargah Management Committee.
