Annual convention of Aryabhatta Science Centre held at Tinsukia

DOOMDOOMA: The 12th annual convention and science based competitions of Aryabhatta Science Centre (ASC), Tinsukia District was held at Naba-Jagriti High School situated at BahadurChariali, Tinsukia on Saturday with a day-long programme. The day began with the hoisting of ASC flag by Dr. RajibKonwar, working president, District Organizing Committee, ASC, Tinsukia while the block coordinators of seven development blocks of ASC Tinsukia district viz. Sadiya, Saikhowa, Kakopothar, Hapjan, Margherita, Guijan and Itakhooli hoisted the flags of their respective block level ASCs. Diganta Kumar Bhajani, the District Coordinator of ASC, Tinsukia District lit the ceremonial lamp before the portrait of Aryabhatta, the great Indian Mathematician and Astronomer of the ancient period.

Besides holding competitions on science, drawing, extempore speech, model making, a competition on innovation were also held in which the first three winners of the block level competitions participated.

In the afternoon, the valedictory function was held with the headmistress of Mahakali Grant High School SwapnaDekaMalakar in the chair. Addressing the gathering as chief guest, former president of Assam Science Writers' Association DhirenDeka emphasized on the need of scientific temperament of each and every individual of the society and to incorporate it as a part of our culture in order to bring about a radical change in our society. Deka also inaugurated 'Moulik', the annual journal of Tinsukia District ASC published under the editorship of Journalist AbhijitKhataniar.

The meeting was also attended by the president of Tinsukia District Committee of Bharat Jana BigyanJhatha (BJVJ) JitenSharma , Principal of Bordubi Higher Secondary School BipulLahkar, retired subject teacher of Dangari Higher Secondary School and poet Dr. Meena Devi Baruah and the headmaster of Naba - Jagriti High School DigantaPasani as guests of honour. The District Coordinator of ASC, Tinsukia District Diganta Kumar Bhajani explained the objectives of the meeting. The prizes of the competitions held in the morning were distributed among the winners.
