DIBRUGARH: The Regional Medical Research Centre(RMRC), situated at Lahowal under Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR), has once again come to the limelight following anomalies in the advertisement published for the post of Director of the Centre.The present director Kanwar Narain is going to retired on August 31(Thursday).

The advertisement which was published in the leading newspaper of the country for the post of the Director of RMRC, Lahowal on all India basis vide advertisement no. ICMR/DIR/01/2023-Pers. 29 May. The last date of submitting application was June 29,2023. The applicant age should be over 58 years and the application fees is Rs 1500. However, the fees for the candidates belonging to SC, ST will be excepted from paying the fees.

Responding the advertisement, it was learned that a total of 13 candidates having requisite criteria applied online for the post of the Director of RMRC from different parts of the country. The Central Selection Committee has selected 11 candidates out of 13 and fixed their interview on September 2,2023 on online mode. In the advertisement for Director post of RMRC, there is no mention about veterinary science degree holders but surprisingly, despite clearly mentioning about the education qualification for the post, questions have been raised about how a candidate having veterinary science degree was included in the selected candidate list for interview scheduled to be held on September 2.

Sources said that a number of people have expressed their dismay over the selection of the candidate who has veterinary degree for the interview.They also claimed that two of the candidates of the State, after having the requisite qualification and age, were not selected in the interview list.

The RMRC centre is one of the six regional centres of ICMR located at Lahowal in Dibrugarh.The RMRC covers all the north-eastern region of India and is responsible for carrying out biomedical research. It was established in 1982 and runs with intramural grant from ICMR and extramural ad hoc projects from different finding agencies.
