Anti-CAA protest ‘Axomiyar Ronodhwani’ staged in Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR: Women’s body under the aegis of AASU, Sivasagar district unit and 30 indigenous organizations staged a sit-in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), 2019 in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Sivasagar on Saturday. Hundreds of women from various walks of life joined the protest to raise their voice against CAA.

Lauding the role of women, AASU education secretary Sarat Hazarika said, “Women are the backbone of the society. Women of Assam have been one of the main forces behind the success of the Assam Movement. Their active participation in the anti-CAA protests has played an exemplary role in encouraging many to hit the streets in a peaceful manner.”

In yet another protest organized against the controversial Act, thousands of people thronged the Boarding Field here. The protest titled ‘Axomiyar Ronodhwani’ was attended by noted journalist Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, popular actress Barasha Rani Bishoya, musician Manash Robin, singer Milan Mili and various other writers, social workers, journalists and representatives of various organizations. They appealed to the people to oppose CAA at any cost in their respective speeches.
