Anti-CAA protests: Thousand of people join AASU 'Gana Satyagraha' in Sarupathar

SARUPATHAR: 'Gana Satyagraha' led by All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and 30 other ethnic organizations, over eight thousands of people joined the agitation to register their protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in front of the office of the Subdivisional officer, at Sarupathar under Dhansiri Subdivision in Golaghat district. The agitators rent the air with their slogan "Hekh tupal tez dim teu CAA ami namanu" (we will give our last drop of blood but we don't want CAA).

However, it looks like the revolt against the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) will go a long way. This is because of people from every nook and corner walkout spontaneously against the act with firm determination to scrap it. Expressing their resentment against the government's oppressive policy the agitators said that the act will not be accepted at any cost. Thus, by following the path of Mahatma Gandhi, protest against the act will be continued in a disciplined, peaceful and democratic way.

Meanwhile, All Assam chief organizing secretary of AASU, Raju Phukan said, "Nonviolent and disciplined protest is the strength of public. We'll continue our protest till the CAA will be scraped by the government". He also warned those are trying to stop the voice of the public and said that the anger of the public is still coming in a non-violent and disciplined manner and it's better not to provoke them with oppressive policy. While Phukan was delivering the speech he appealed to the people to be united at this juncture. He said that a third force is now actively involved in derailing the agitation. " Our duty is to thwart the evil design of the third force which is now hatching a ploy to derail the process of peaceful agitation". He further said that even after creating a difficult situation the government has received nothing but failure in stopping the voice of the public.

Besides the AASU and 30 other ethnic organization's members, the senior citizens, members of Xahitya Sabha of Dhansiri Subdivision, teachers, students of different schools and colleges, Advocate association of Dnansiri Subdivision and many others joined the Gana Satyagraha started from general field to the SDO office of Dhansiri Subdivision.
