DIBRUGARH: The students of Centre for Studies in Journalism & Mass Communication (CSJMC), Dibrugarh University flagged of their first event, a cycle rally, to create an awareness among the youth of Dibrugarh about drug abuse at JCN Field, Dibrugarh University. The students of Dibrugarh University took part in the event and Plabona Bora Goswami, president of Pratyabartan Rehabilitation Centre of Dibrugarh was the guest of honour.

The event started with a brief introduction on the campaign 'Choose to Refuse' which focuses on how harmful it is for the youth to take drugs. 'Choose to Refuse' is a three-month long campaign with various events in Dibrugarh in each week, cycle rally being the first of all. The event started off with a welcome speech by one of the team members followed by a speech by Plabona Bora Goswami, president of Pratyabartan Rehabilitation Centre.

In her speech she said, "We have forever been fighting against drugs but the fight seemed quite tough, seeing young people come up with such initiatives make me believe the fight is going to end soon on our favour." She expressed her gratitude toward the students of mass communication and added, "Drugs is a slow poison and can also be called a suicide. It is not just the rehabs' responsibility but also the responsibility of the society, parents and the youths all together. Its a pleasure to watch the students of Mass communication of Dibrugarh University taking such an initiative." More than 50 students gathered in the event today, stated a press release.
