LAKHIMPUR: Along with the rest of the State, Anundoram Borooah Award, launched by the Government of Assam to motivate and inspire the students for better performance, was presented to the students of Lakhimpur on Wednesday. The award was presented to a total of 1,283 students of the district who cleared the HSLC Examination this year with 75 per cent or more marks. As mark of the award, each student received an amount of Rs. 15,000 through Direct Bank Transfer (DBT).
In this connection, a ceremonial programme was organized at Tyag Kshetra of North Lakhimpur town under the auspices of the Education Department and Lakhimpur district administration. Health and Family Welfare Minister Keshab Mahanta attended the event as chief guest. Lakhimpur Inspector of Schools, Hem Chandra Saikia delivered the welcome address in the event which was anchored by DC Office official Junuma Koch.
In his lecture, Minister Keshab Mahanta paid heartfelt tribute to academician, scholar Aundoram Barooah, whose life and works continues to be an inspiration and guiding beacon for all. The Minister shed light on the life and works of the scholar and called upon the students to be inspired with his ideology to shape themselves to be socially responsible citizens of future. In this context, Mahanta appealed to the teachers and guardians to pave the way for the students in right direction and extend all possible cooperation to them.
Participating in the event, Bihpuria MLA Dr. Amiya Kumar Bhuyan extended congratulations to the awardees and delivered encouraging lecture in light of New Education Policy - 2020. Then the recording of the lecture of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, delivered in the central programme of the same, held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, was screened. District Development Commissioner Utpal Borah, Assistant Commissioner Bhaskar Jyoti Boruah, representative of Dhakuakhana MLA, Lakhimpur BJP president Phanidhar Baruah, North Lakhimpur Development Authority president Samiran Konwar, North Lakhimpur Municipal Board chairperson Nibenita Dutta, departmental heads of the district, officers and employees of the Education Department, teachers of the schools were present in the event. It should be noted here that the Anundoram Borooah Award, 2023 was presented to a total of 27,183 students across Assam who cleared their HSLC. A total of Rs. 40,77,45,000 was sanctioned by the Government of Assam for the occasion.
