DIBRUGARH: A number of posts have emerged on social media site Twitter alleging blockage of civilian access to a piece of land in Dibrugarh by construction of a boundary fence.

"It is clarified that the concerned area is bona fide defense land which was earlier encroached upon illegally and the honourable High Court of Gauhati ordered eviction of illegal occupants in 2020. Boundary fence around the area is being constructed as per procedure to protect defense assets and prevent illegal encroachment," an Army press statement stated.

It further stated, "Modalities of regulated access to civilians to meet local aspirations are being considered by Army authorities. False posts on social media by misinformed persons are motivated and ill informed. Citizens are urged to refrain from the same and assist Indian Army in doing its legally mandated task."
