DIBRUGARH: In a grand ceremony at Dinjan Military Station, Indian Army signed a tripartite MoU of Project DARPAN (Dao and Rising Sun Preparatory Academy in NE) & Project SPEARS (Selection & Preparation for Employment in Army by Rising Sun) with the National Integrity and Educational Development Organization (NIEDO), Coal India Limited and Oil India Limited on Friday.
The occasion was graced by many distinguished dignitaries, including Bimal Borah, Assam Minister for Industries & Commerce and Public Enterprises. The MoU signed between Indian Army, NIEDO, Oil India Ltd & Coal India Ltd aims to provide value-based education to the underprivileged children of Upper Assam.
The Indian Army, through these de novo initiatives aims at establishing a major educational hub in the Dibrugarh district to prepare children of weaker sections of the society for NDA and CDS entrance exams. The project offers free of cost residential coaching facility along with free lodging and mess for approximately 120 deserving children over a span of one year. NIEDO & GAPS (Georgian Academy for Professional Studies) will be the agencies involved with providing academic guidance, proper syllabus module and full-time qualified faculty having rich experience to train students for NDA and CDS.
Indian defence forces have always been a profession of honour and integrity, a way of life rather than a job and the north-eastern part of India with its abundant pool of youth, full of sparkling energy, is a promising location for the future Defence Officers. However, due to lack of coaching facilities, infrastructure and proper guidance, their participation in the defence forces has been limited. Keeping these limitations in mind, Project DARPAN and Project SPEARS were conceptualized.
These one-of-a-kind initiatives will enable specialist training from experienced faculty, which will ensure that the children are well prepared and equipped to undertake the complete selection process of written examination and personal interviews as well. The project will be run under the aegis of Indian Army’s Eastern Command, under the supervision of Dao Division at Dibrugarh.
