Army personnel cremated with military honours in Udalguri district

UDALGURI: Prabin Kumar Deka, a serving army personnel and a resident of Pakribari village near Khoirabari in Udalguri district who meritoriously served the country for 23 long years passed away after brief illness. Born to freedom fighter father, Thaneswar Deka, he joined the 141 Field Regiment of the Indian Army in the year 1997.

He also remained witness and bravely fought in the Kargil War. Deka for his meritorious service and dedication joined in the rank of guard and was serving in the rank of Havildar. Deka who was on medical leave due to shoulder related ailments was operated in Command Hospital, Kolkata where he suffered a stroke and left for his heavenly abode on November 26 last. He was cremated with full military funeral honours by 230 Regiment Army stationed in Ghagra in Udalguri at his native village on Wednesday.

A pall of gloom surrounded the villages and every road lead to his home where people thronged to pay their tributes to the soldier Commandant of 230 Regiment Army, Kumar Ashutosh offered floral tributes to the deceased. Local social activists and students body members also paid their tribute to the soldier. Deka who embraced untimely death left behind his wife, two sons and a host of relatives and well wishers.
