Army-Police Operation: Self Styled Platoon Commander of 16 Battalion of NDFB(S) killed in Ambush

Kokrajhar: A hardcore NDFB (S) militant Sansula Basumatary alias B. Sotbangsha was killed in an ambush on Sunday in New Basti of Dwimalupara in Khungring.

Basumatary was reported to be the Self Styled Platoon Commander of 16 Battalion of NDFB(S).

Notably, the Army unit and Assam Police laid a number of ambush in the village.

On 05 January 2020 one of the ambush parties saw one armed militant approaching and asked him to stop.

The militant opened fire upon the security forces and ran away. He was chased upon and was asked to stop. He did not stop and instead, he opened a huge amount of fir on the ambush party. The joint team retaliated by opening controlled fire by exercising the right of self-defense.

After the firing was stopped from both sides, the area was searched and one suspected militant was found in injured condition. He was immediately shifted to JSB Civil Hospital, Kajalgaon where he was declared as brought dead.

He was active in Chirang District and was responsible for extortion, recruitment of new cadres and anti-national activities.

During the search of encounter site two Pistols, two grenades, warlike stores and huge sum of money were recovered.
