Around 60 organizations stand against Citizenship Bill

NAGAON: Around 60 local units of various organizations on Friday stood together against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 and slammed the BJP-led coalition government. The organizations opposing the Bill also took stern decision to stage serial protests in the district against the initiative of the government in connection with the bill.

A meeting was held on Friday at Nagaon Swahid Bhavan where the organizations took the decision. Most of the organizations criticized the BJP government at the Centre along with the State BJP-led coalition government as both governments through amendment of the bill allegedly conspired to ruin the base of the greater Assamese community. The organizations would start their protest agendas from November 14 onwards, sources said.

According to the sources, the organizations on November 14, would offer a warm welcome to the delegates of the resolution tour which had been started from Dhola in Tinsukia district in Nagaon. The representatives of various organizations like AASU, AJYCP, KMSS, AAMSU, Goria Moria Dexiya Parishad, Tai Ahom Chatra Xongtha and others were present in the meeting.
