Kokrajhar: At a time when people are worried over the spread of endemic coronavirus, there have been reports of scarcity of salt in certain markets, especially in remote areas.

On Wednesday, the sudden shortfall of salt was reported in Saraibil, Gossaigaon, Serfanguri, Nayekgaon and Dotma in the markets and weekly markets. The news about shortage of salt flooded social media. Subsequently, people rushed to buy salt and traders took advantage of the high demand for salt and started selling it at a higher rate.

Meanwhile, official sources called upon people not to believe in rumours about scarcity of essential items. Interestingly, on Tuesday night there were rumours doing the rounds on social media that the deadly virus will not be able enter the human body if people drink black or red tea without sugar or salt before the sun rises. As the message spread like wildfire, people in Kokrajhar woke up early and prepared black tea to drink with all family members. However, the source of the rumour could not be found out. On the other hand, the district administration of Kokrajhar ordered saloons, bars and beauty parlours to close on Thursday until further order.
