LAKHIMPUR: Making a mockery of Simaluguri police, Arunachali aggressors managed to take away one excavator which was seized by police at Dropang under Narayanpur Revenue Circle.

Notably, giving a new dimension to the Assam-Arunachal border dispute, a section of people from Arunachal Pradesh aggressively encroached upon the land of Assam in the Lakhimpur district. This encroachment came into light on July 5 in Dropang area under Narayanpur Revenue Circle of the district, wherein the aggressive Arunachali people dug two big ponds on Assam's land by using two excavators. Regarding the issue, a detailed report was published in the July 6 issue of The Sentinel.

On seeing the aggression of the Arunachali encroachers, the local people of Assam protested and then they stopped the aggressors from digging the land further. Later, a team of police personnel from Simaluguri Police Outpost arrived at the spot after receiving the information and seized two excavators.

But the aggressors, with the support of the Arunachal Pradesh Police, managed to take away one of the two seized excavators on Thursday. At this, the local bodies of All Assam Students' Union and other organizations, and local public expressed vehement resentment. "How could the Arunachali aggressors manage to take away the seized excavator despite the vigilance and security of the Simaluguri Police?" they said.

They demanded Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to launch a probe into the matter. They also demanded an enquiry against the Harmoty Range Office of the Forest Department regarding its alleged dereliction which is considered to be the main reason for the encroachment on Assam's land in the Dropang area by Arunachali aggressors.
