LAKHIMPUR: Alleging mismanagement of the State Education Department by minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya, the Lakhimpur district unit of the Asomiya Yuva Mancha (AYM) burnt his effigy on Monday at Main Chariali of North Lakhimpur town.

Expressing vehement resentment against him, the organization alleged that the minister had mishandled the education department of the State. According to the organization, the minister was mainly responsible for the recent D.El.Ed related anomalies in connection with the TET exam and the midday meal imbroglio. The organization strongly protested against the alleged game being played with the health of the students by handing over the cooked midday meal service to the non-government organizations.

By staging the protest, the organization demanded Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to remove the present education minister from office and to appoint a deserving public representative in order to make the department function properly and transparently. Central committee organizing secretary Anupam Saikia, Lakhimpur unit president Chiranjit Bordoloi, and other leaders took part in the protest wherein the protesters shouted various slogans against the education minister.
