KOKRAJHAR: In a herculean objective, the BTC has decided to plant 10 lakh saplings in a single day to create record on September 14 next at Sikaridanga, Bwirabkhanda in Udalguri district. Massive preparations are going on for the mega plantation programme.

Visiting the spot of plantation on Sunday, the CEM of BTC Pramod Boro said the State government has decided to plant 1 crore saplings across the State beginning September 14 and being a stakeholder the BTC has decided to plant 10 lakhs saplings in a single day on that day to create record in the Guiness Book of World Records. He said the location for the mega plantation programme near Bwirabkhanda in Udalguri district had been cleaned up. At least 5,000 guests have already been invited in the mega plantation programme and around 15,000-20,000 people will participate in the plantation, he said adding that the activists of different NGOs and workers of district and anchalik committee, ABSU will join the programme. He also said the Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is likely to take part in the plantation programme.

Replying to questions, Boro said the department of forest in association with NGOs will take care of the plantation site. He hoped that the success of this mega plantation programme will contribute in bringing a stable weather to beat global warming.
