GUWAHATI: 11-year-old Anvi Nagori, a talented Kathak dancer from Guwahati, achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new record for the maximum number of spins in a minute. On June 5, Anvi accomplished 100 spins, earning her a place in the prestigious Assam Book of Records.
Anvi's mother, Puja Nagori, and her dance teacher, Debasish Saha, enthusiastically cheered for her during this momentous achievement. Anvi expressed her gratitude to her mother, crediting her as her inspiration and role model. While her current focus is on Kathak, Anvi aspires to become a contemporary and hip-hop dancer as well.
Anvi dedicated two years of hard work to prepare for this feat. Prior to earning recognition from the Assam Book of Records, she had been practicing Kathak Chakradhar, a challenging spinning technique. Anvi's mother came up with the idea of setting a record for 100 spins in a minute, which became Anvi's immediate goal. With regular practice, she was able to accomplish this remarkable milestone. Anvi began her dance journey at the tender age of 4 and expressed her gratitude to her father, Kamal Nagori, and her brother, Nishit, for their unwavering support throughout.
“I have been practicing Kathak Chakradhar – famously known as the spin before I bagged this recognition from the Assam Book of Records. My mom came up with the idea to set a record for 100 spins in a minute. Since then, I took it as my immediate goal and practiced it regularly,” Anvi said.
Anvi described her win as a special moment that has significantly boosted her confidence. The certificate issued by the Assam Book of Records recognized her achievement, acknowledging her as a student of grade VI at Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti School in Guwahati. The certificate issued by Assam Book of Records under state record read as, “Anvi Nagori, a student of grade VI at Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti School, Guwahati, and daughter of Puja Nagori and Kamal Nagori of Guwahati, Assam, has set a new record for performing the fastest 100 Kathak Chakradhar in one minute. The record was set at her residence on 05th June 2023 in Guwahati, Assam”.
Kathak Chakradhar is a step in Kathak, one of the eight major forms of Indian classical dance. Puja Nagori, Anvi's mother, expressed her joy and pride, describing this new feat as a turning point for their family. The next goal set for Anvi is to aim for the Guinness Book of World Records by accomplishing 120 spins in a minute.
The current world record for the maximum number of spins in a minute is held by Gatha Raut, a 9-year-old Kathak dancer from Pune, who achieved 116 spins in 2017.
Anvi's achievement also holds significance within her family, as she becomes the first member to hold a state record. The positive vibes generated by this accomplishment have inspired her mother to continue supporting Anvi's dance journey with great enthusiasm and pride. Anvi's pursuit of excellence in dance continues, and her aspirations now extend to making a mark in the Guinness Book of World Records.
