In addition, Assam police on Monday night found a large quantity of heroin in a car in Karimganj.

Karimganj Police conducted an operation after receiving a tip, and at the Patharkandi police station's Ashimganj neighborhood, they stopped a car.

"During the operation, the car's driver escaped the area. 52 soap cases containing 676 grams of heroin were discovered during the search. The drugs that were seized are thought to have a market value of about Rs 5 crore "According to Karimganj district Additional Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das. He also added that the car was traveling from Mizoram's side in the direction of Patharkandi.

Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, recently made a statement while addressing a program for disposing of the drugs that had been collected at Barhampur in the Nagaon district "Between May 10 and July 15 of this year, drug seizures totaling Rs 163 crore were made. The annual value of the illicit drug trade in Assam would be at least Rs 5,000 crore if this represented, say, 20% of the drugs smuggled through the state "the minister added.

Sarma emphasized that the money used by addicts to obtain the drugs comes at the expense of family well-being and that the entire amount leaves Assam without being taxed or contributing to the state exchequer.
