GUWAHATI : With continuous effort by the state administration, Assam has witnessed a drop of 22% in road accidents on New Year's eve and 1st of January 2023, and 66% drop in fatalities. This is the result of strict police checking and patrolling in the state.
There has been a decline from the number of mishaps due to road accidents in the year 2021 and 2022 in both these days, as per reports submitted by the police.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that, ever since the present government was formed in 2021, it is trying its best to minimise the number of road accidents and death cases especially on 31st December and 1st of January.
The administration will carry on its efforts to attain its goal in eradicating the unfortunate incidents caused due to road accidents in the future as well. In the previous years, 50 such deaths were recorded in the region, however the number has decreased to 15 in the year 2022 for the mentioned dates.
Deaths are painful and the decline in ratio implies the probability to prevent any such tragedies, added the CM.
Furthermore, Diganta Borah, the Guwahati police commissioner expressed his gratitude towards the citizens of Guwahati for their cooperation in stress free celebrations of the New Year.
He further revealed that a total of 58 road accidents were reported from Saturday to Monday morning. Fortunately, no casualties were reported during this phase. Even though a head on collision between two vehicles was reported in Guwahati, zero death cases were registered during the celebration period.
The department as well as the public has achieved an optimistic point to start this year on a positive note.
It is worth noting that, Guwahati has witnessed a increase in sell of alcohol in both days with quite a huge amount of revenue earned. Inspite of that, road accident cases and deaths did not occur in the city.
