GUWAHATI: On Thursday, two people were detained in connection with the recovery of 24 cattle heads from a truck in the Nagaon region of Assam.
Sarkar Ali and Hasan Ali have been named as the two alleged smugglers that were apprehended. A police team reportedly stopped a truck with the license plate AS-01HC-9648 in the Borghat neighbourhood close to Nagaon town.
The truck and the cattle have been seized. "24 cattle heads have been found in the vehicle. The truck had left the Borghat region," Policeman Ramani Kanta Das from the Nagaon district remarked.
The police officer added that the two alleged cattle traffickers admitted to bringing the cattle to the Jorabat region near the Assam-Meghalaya border during questioning. In the police station in Nagaon Sadar, a case has been opened, and more questioning has been requested.
At Golakganj town, Dhubri district, five livestock were found in opulent automobiles. The police confiscated a Chevrolet vehicle and five cows from Birat Nagar Chariali in the wee hours of 1st March, Wednesday.
Sources claim that the car was involved in a road accident that attracted the police's attention. The car was seized by the police afterwards. The law enforcement officials had detained the car's driver.
The car's identification number is AS 01 AA 3644. As required by law, necessary follow-up actions were taken.
Similar circumstances occurred recently, when the Jorabat Police stopped a truck at Jorabat that was allegedly transporting livestock into Meghalaya illegally.
There were 30 cows total in the vehicle, according to sources who claim it was filled with contraband animals. As the car was leaving Nagaon for Meghalaya, it was stopped. The truck and the animals have been retrieved by the legal authorities.
The truck driver, though, had already left the area. The car's identification number is AS-01-PC-8357.
