GUWAHATI: On Tuesday, December 13, the Assam Police recovered 23.640 kg of Ganja in the state's Kamrup district. Three persons were also detained in connection with this matter.
The police conducted the operation based on a specific input. The operation was led by Officer-in-charge of Rangia Police Station. The police conducted the search operation at the house of one Khairul Islam of Balagaon where they recovered 23.640 kg of suspected ganja. The police also seized one Bolero and one Alto along with three persons.
In this matter, the Kamrup Police tweeted "Acting on a tip-off, a @KamrupPolice team led by OC Rangia PS conducted a search operation in the house of Khairul Islam of Balagaon& recovered 23.640 Kg suspected Ganja. 3 persons are apprehended. One Bolero & one Alto vehicles are seized."
Reportedly, the Assam Police conducted another comparable raid on December 11 in Cachar district of Assam, where drugs worth Rs 50 crore was found.The police also detained five people in that operation. The Assam Police intercepted two cars coming to Silchar from Aizawl, where they recovered drugs from two vehicles. Two lakh Yaba tablets, arriving from Myanmar via Mizoram and valued at about Rs 50 crore, were seized by the police.Five additional people have been detained by the police for allegedly taking part in the drug selling incident.The police have also filed a case against those who were arrested, and more investigation is ongoing.
Earlier in November, Assam police seized 500 kg cannabis in Guwahati's Gorchuk and arrested four persons in this connection. The operation led by Joint Commissioner of Police Partha Mahanta reportedly stopped a truck coming from a neighbouring state and recovered 500 kilogrammes of marijuana at Gorchuk in Kamrup district. The medicines confiscated are thought to have a market worth of between Rs 3 and Rs 3.5 crore.
