HAMREN: A very sad incident took place in the West Karbi Anglong district of the state, three young students died by drowning.

The incident took place in the Putsari locality of the West Karbi Anglong district of Assam on the afternoon of Sunday. These three young girls had reportedly gone for a swim in a local water body when the incident took place.

The three dead children were identified as 10-year-old Wernika Terongpi, 10-year-old Shernika Terongpi and 8-year-old Adarshnai Terongpi.

Meanwhile, the incident has caused a lot of sadness and sorrow in the entire Putsari locality.

Previously also, a tragic incident took place in the Karimganj District of the Barak Valley region of Assam when two young children drowned after they went to take a bath. The incident came to light only after the locals spotted the slippers belonging to the children floating in a pond. The incident took place in the Hulas Nagar locality, which falls under the Ratabari Police Station of the Karimganj District of the state.

According to the sources, the children, aged 11 and 7 years respectively, had gone missing for several hours. Following this, the parents and local people mounted a search operation wherein they discovered the slippers floating on the pond's surface. On searching the pond, the bodies were also discovered and later fished out. The police also arrived at the location and sent the bodies of the children for post-mortem.

Another similar incident took place earlier this week in the state when two children of the same family - Abidur (7) and Rijuwan (5) respectively, died by drowning on Saturday evening in the Brahmaputra River under Sootea PS. According to information, two sons of one Abdul Jalal, a resident of No 2 Bhojamri on the southern part of Sootea, went to play with their friends. When they did not return home till late afternoon, the family members started to look for them. Later a fisherman spotted two floating bodies on the river side of the Brahmaputra. He immediately informed the locals and the family members as well.
