Assam: 383rd birth anniversary of Bagh Hazarika observed

The 383rd birth anniversary of Bagh Hazarika was observed at Haji Muzafirkhana in Dibrugarh on Wednesday. Ismail Siddique, popularly known as Bagh Hazarika, who fought alongside Lachit Barphukan in the famous Battle of Saraighat. Hazarika, a 17th century Ahom army warrior, is believed to be instrumental in turning the tide in favour of the Ahoms in the Battle of Saraighat.

DIBRUGARH: The 383rd birth anniversary of Bagh Hazarika was observed at Haji Muzafirkhana in Dibrugarh on Wednesday. Ismail Siddique, popularly known as Bagh Hazarika, who fought alongside Lachit Barphukan in the famous Battle of Saraighat. Hazarika, a 17th century Ahom army warrior, is believed to be instrumental in turning the tide in favour of the Ahoms in the Battle of Saraighat. Ex-president of Axom Xahitya Xabha Dr Nagen Saikia inaugurated the 383rd birth anniversary of Bagh Hazarika. In his speech, Dr Saikia thanked the organiser for observing Bagh Hazarika’s birth anniversary, the legendary figure of Saraighat battle.

Saikia said that his valour and bravery in the battle will always be inspired the people of the State. Setting aside the different controversy on Bagh Hazarika, he called upon the people not to pay any heed to such controversies and urged upon the people to work for the development of Assam.

Renowned writer Mukut Sarma from Darrang, in his deliberation recalled the contribution of Bagh Hazarika in winning the battle of Saraighat along with Ahom general Lachit Borphukan.

“The contribution of Lachit Borphukan and Bagh Hazarika will never be erased from the hearts of the people. The young generation should imbibe the ideals of the heros like Lachit Borphukan, Bagh Hazarika and others in their pursuit to keep Assamese pride and glory,” Mukut Sarma asserted.

Bichitra Mahanta, a resident of Hachara, a place where Bagh Hazarika was settled in the initial stage of life, has put forward various proposal for making Hachara a tourist spot.

Ahmed Hazarika, president of Bagh Hazarika Memorial Federation spoke about the aims and objective of the meeting while secretary Imran Hussain read out the resolutions of the meetings. The meeting was presided over by Uttam Baruah, general secretary of Royal Ahom Society. Dr. Bharati Dutta, former professor of DHSK college also spoke on the occasion. Earlier, the meeting started with the recitation of Quran and Bagavat Gita.
